| Backstory: | Seralyth Gloomstar was born in Ansell-Vend, the daughter and sole heir of Queen Ilriath Gloomstar. She was raised in the Royal Palace and grew up heavily protected from the dangers of the outside world. As a young woman, Seralyth placed her trust in her uncle, Androlyth Gloomstar. He eventually betrayed that trust, luring her away from the palace and delivering her into the hands of human men. Seralyth was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. She fought her attackers until she was no longer capable of resisting and was severely injured. She eventually escaped, but nearly died from her wounds. A permanent scar remained from her collarbone to her abdomen despite the efforts of Ansell-Vend’s healers. The experience fundamentally changed Seralyth’s understanding of trust, vulnerability, and dependence. She learned that even someone she trusted could use that trust against her. When Seralyth returned home, Ilriath was devastated. The queen had nearly lost her daughter, and her fear transformed into extreme protectiveness. Guards followed Seralyth, servants accompanied her, and her movements increasingly required permission. Although Seralyth understood that her mother’s actions came from love and fear, she eventually felt that her life no longer belonged to her. Seralyth rebelled and left Ansell-Vend. She abandoned the palace, royal expectations, guards, and constant protection and joined the Adventurer’s Guild. She chose the dangerous life of an adventurer because it gave her control over her own decisions and forced her to rely on herself. Above all, she wanted to ensure that she would never again be helpless in someone else’s hands. Over the following 140 years, Seralyth became a highly capable adventurer and developed exceptional skill in Ansell-Vendish swordsmanship, archery, nature magic, and hand-to-hand combat. However, she never forgot Androlyth. She eventually discovered that her uncle was responsible for her betrayal. He remained alive in Geldanos, and Seralyth carried her hatred and desire for revenge for more than a century. Her hatred became a defining part of her life. Yet, after so many years, Seralyth began to question whether revenge had become another form of imprisonment. She feared that if revenge was the only thing keeping her going, she might no longer know who she was without it. Then she met K-10. Initially, Seralyth expected him to eventually attempt to control or possess her like other men had. Instead, K-10 treated her as an equal. He never demanded anything from her or attempted to control her. After witnessing K-10 survive wounds that should have killed him, Seralyth confronted him about his true nature. The two agreed to exchange their deepest secrets as an act of trust. K-10 revealed that he was originally from Earth, had been orphaned, recruited by the Kronos Group, and trained as a black-operations soldier before being transported to Tarmynia. In return, Seralyth revealed her true identity as Seralyth Gloomstar, daughter and heir of Queen Ilriath, and told K-10 about Androlyth’s betrayal and her subsequent pursuit of revenge. For Seralyth, revealing these secrets represented an enormous act of vulnerability. She realized that she had begun to trust K-10. Their relationship therefore represents an important turning point in her life: after 140 years of protecting herself from vulnerability, Seralyth begins to discover that trust does not necessarily mean surrendering control. K-10’s simple statement—”Because I choose to.”—becomes a powerful affirmation of that new trust. Core Themes Trust vs. betrayal Freedom vs. protection Independence vs. vulnerability Revenge vs. healing Love becoming control Learning to trust again Seralyth’s central struggle is not simply defeating the person who betrayed her. It is determining whether she can eventually free herself from the hatred that has defined her for 140 years. |
