Max Lee was not born into war.
He was born into its aftermath.
Raised in a galaxy stabilized by legends, Lee gravitated early toward structure, discipline, and purpose. At seventeen — an unusually young age for consideration — he was accepted into the N1 program, the foundational tier of Systems Alliance special operations training. His instructors quickly noted what set him apart: not recklessness, but control.
Precision under pressure.
Measured aggression.
Emotional containment.
Where others relied on adrenaline, Lee relied on calculation.

Approximately two centuries before the present day, prior to the final stages of the Reaper War, a group of human engineers were stationed on the planet Oma Ker in the Inner Council regions of Citadel space. The personnel, including the ancestors of Max Lee, were assisting Turian colonial authorities with infrastructure development and planetary settlement.
When Reaper forces attacked the system, the human engineers and approximately two hundred other civilians evacuated aboard a Turian transport vessel bound for the Citadel. However, during their approach, the Citadel vanished from its normal position in Council space as part of the Reaper invasion. With no safe harbor available, the transport diverted to the nearest habitable world: Tuchanka, the krogan homeworld.
At the time, krogan forces were actively resisting Reaper ground assaults across the planet. The human refugees were stranded after the destruction of the mass relay network at the end of the war, preventing immediate return to Citadel space. Over time, the survivors dispersed across Tuchanka’s harsh and inhospitable terrain.
A number of the refugees entered into working agreements with various krogan clans. The ancestors of Max Lee became closely associated with Clan Urdnot, assisting in reconstruction efforts alongside the clan’s leadership, including Urdnot Wrex and the female clan leader Bakara. Over the following two centuries, this partnership evolved into a rare but stable example of long-term human–krogan cooperation.

Max Lee is the product of one such union. His mother was a member of Clan Urdnot, while his father belonged to another krogan-aligned human settlement. Clan leader Urdnot Wrex personally supported the union.
